Mother & Father

By Kathleen Janz

My parents fell in love the first time their eyes met. As my mother came down the church steps, in a black and white pock-a-dot dress, she saw my father staring up at her and a thrill ran clear down to the tips of her toes. My father was mesmerized by her beauty and thought to himself, “That’s the woman I’m going to marry,” and so they did, two years later.

Their marriage was what true love is made of; honesty, selflessness, and God first. I don’t ever recall them fighting, although if they had a “discussion” it would be in German. There were never angry looks or harsh words, and they would always end up laughing. I’m sure if one had been disrespectful to the other, there would have been a reaction, but to our eyes at least, that never happened.

Here are a couple of things I wrote for them.
